When I am visiting locally I like to spend some time in this beautiful Church
Spectacular church open daily. It's extremely close to Stansted airport but very rural and has a fantastic interior
Delighted to find this is open daily 11am to 3pm and that there's a car park behind the church which is reasonably weatherproof. Beautiful wild flowers in the graveyard. For me the Romanesque doorways are a highlight. Some interesting monuments too: the 1614 monument to Hester Salusburye, has beautifully defined lace and costume details, while the massive monument to Thomas Middleton has a fabulously gushing statement about his achievements and character.
The church was probably founded in the early 12th century to replace a Saxon structure on the same site and retains the Norman doorways and chancel arch. !n 1994 it was closed and vested in The Churches Conservation Trust. It contains many stained glass windows.
